Everlasting Playground

Art installation piece

Commissioned by Leah Douglas, “Everlasting Playground,” is an installation in Terminal C at the Philadelphia International Airport. The piece is almost 6-feet tall and 20-feet wide, and uses a Korean folk painting style, inspired by the paintings of the Joseon Dynasty, to depict a peaceful spring scene.

Hee Sook Kim began by painting a smaller (40”x120”) version of this piece. This painting was then scanned, enlarged, and printed on canvas fabric, and we added the rhinestones to it by hand. It took us over three days in a workshop at the airport to collage all the gems onto the reproduced image.
